Lessons

PIANO | HARP | VOICE | GUITAR | COMPOSITION | PRODUCTION

As a former K-12 educator, multi-instrumentalist, composer and working musician, I am passionate about teaching a variety of instruments in all styles from classical, to jazz and metal.

I work with students of all ages and walks of life, catering the content and concepts to each students’ individual interests and capacity to help them overcome personal challenges and connect with their joy. Lessons for one student might look completely different to lessons for another, but they all include laughter and insight.

I also use ample improvisation and musical play, cultivating curiosity and discovery while building nuanced social and listening skills.

There are no wrong notes if you wonder where they lead.

Policies & Expectations

This is essentially the contract you would be signing upon officially registering for lessons with me. All students/parents are encouraged to read over it first to get a sense of my expectations as both a teacher and a small business owner.

Practice

All students are encouraged to practice on a daily basis. Research suggests it is more beneficial to practice for 5 minutes every day than it is to practice for 30 minutes twice per week, and I have plenty of anecdotal experience to back that up.

For children ages 3-10, it is necessary for parents/family members to be engaged and active participants in practice. Family must remind and participate in their kids' practice sessions to encourage their progress and help build healthy habits.

I provide each student with some form of practice chart to help track their progress and practicing habits and always give specific guidance catered to each student.

Materials

Each student needs a 1-inch binder and either loose leaf paper or a notebook for notes, homework, and music and should come to each lesson with these materials. I will provide lesson books and repertoire or links for purchasing these materials when needed.

Scheduling

All scheduling and rescheduling requests must be made 1-2 weeks in advance. I do my best to offer flexibility with scheduling, but the more notice we both have, the better!

Payment

Payments are due in full by the first lesson of each month. If the payment is not received by the 15th day of the month, there is a late fee of $15.00. I accept cash, personal checks, Paypal and Venmo. Please make checks payable to β€œElizabeth Owens.”

All fees paid are non-refundable.

Cancellations

Cancellation of a lesson must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time in order to receive a make-up lesson. Requests include text and email only. I cannot guarantee a make-up lesson, but will do my best to accommodate our schedules. In either the event of a cancellation or make-up lesson, your monthly bill will not change. Only 2 make-up lessons are permitted per 5 lessons.

If I, for any reason, have to cancel our lesson, I will work with you to schedule a guaranteed makeup lesson.

Tardiness/No-Shows

If a student arrives 15 minutes or later to their scheduled lesson, the lesson is forfeit and no makeup lesson will be made.
