Recording Basics

Recording Basics Workshop

Date: Friday, March 6 | 11am EST on Zoom

If you’ve ever wanted to record your own music but don’t know where to start, I’ve been there! But thanks to a mix of spite, ADHD hyperfixation, a love of technology, and a disdain for mansplaining, I’ve managed to become pretty darn good at it.

What I’ll show you:

  • the basic concepts and tools shared by all recording programs

  • how to set up your devices and record tracks

  • basic track editing and mixing

  • troubleshooting! a.k.a What To Do When The Thing Doesn’t Work And I Have No Idea Why. this is possibly the most important thing…

What you’ll leave with:

  • a finished, recorded audio file!

  • an embodied understanding of the software space and how it works (whichever program you are using)

  • a PDF field guide including what we covered, useful shortcuts, and an “in case of emergency” section.

There is no prior experience or audio software required to attend - just your lovely, curious self.

Why me?

Over the past 15 years I’ve recorded, produced, and mixed 3 records, several film scores, and countless other miscellaneous projects. I’ve taught audio production and sound recording classes of varying levels to adults and young people alike in a wide range of settings, from college classrooms to filmmaking summer camps.

I’m passionate about making technology not only understandable, but fun to use - even for the most intrepid adventurers. Collaborative trial-and-error, curiosity, humor, and a bit of metaphorical whimsy can go a long way.

Sound good? Fill out the RSVP form to attend, and donate if you can.

While the workshop will be free to attend, there is a suggested donation of $15 for my time and effort. You can also give a custom amount if you’d like.
