Recording Basics Workshop
Date: Friday, March 6 | 11am EST on Zoom
If you’ve ever wanted to record your own music but don’t know where to start, I’ve been there! But thanks to a mix of spite, ADHD hyperfixation, a love of technology, and a disdain for mansplaining, I’ve managed to become pretty darn good at it.
What I’ll show you:
the basic concepts and tools shared by all recording programs
how to set up your devices and record tracks
basic track editing and mixing
troubleshooting! a.k.a What To Do When The Thing Doesn’t Work And I Have No Idea Why. this is possibly the most important thing…
What you’ll leave with:
a finished, recorded audio file!
an embodied understanding of the software space and how it works (whichever program you are using)
a PDF field guide including what we covered, useful shortcuts, and an “in case of emergency” section.
There is no prior experience or audio software required to attend - just your lovely, curious self.
Why me?
Over the past 15 years I’ve recorded, produced, and mixed 3 records, several film scores, and countless other miscellaneous projects. I’ve taught audio production and sound recording classes of varying levels to adults and young people alike in a wide range of settings, from college classrooms to filmmaking summer camps.
I’m passionate about making technology not only understandable, but fun to use - even for the most intrepid adventurers. Collaborative trial-and-error, curiosity, humor, and a bit of metaphorical whimsy can go a long way.
Sound good? Fill out the RSVP form to attend, and donate if you can.
While the workshop will be free to attend, there is a suggested donation of $15 for my time and effort. You can also give a custom amount if you’d like.
